There is a very personal reason that I find walking in gospel boots important, and also having my gospel boots [ON]. To walk by faith has a very important meaning to me.

It was summer 1971, a bicycling accident and injury to my left foot resulted in an infection and full onset of gangrene. At age 11, I just was aware that my foot stunk horribly and the pain kept me awake through the night. The pain was so terrible that my heart seemed to stop at times. As my family were members of a Christian cult, one that did not prescribe to the use of medicines, I was not given any pain medication during the four hour surgery following the accident or the following weeks as the 22 stitches, holding the laceration of the top of me foot down to the bone, tried to mend.
One particular night, my parents asked if a minister would come and anoint my foot and pray over the injury. When the minister arrived, he simply asked me whether I thought Jesus could heal my foot. I said, "Yes." He placed a white cloth over my foot, and for several minutes said a prayer to the Lord, Jesus Christ asking for complete healing of my injury.
The next morning, my mother while unwrapping my bandages starting weeping. I was concerned, almost terrified. But then she said, "Oh, Ginger! Your foot looks like fresh liver!"
Unknown to me, my parents had been told by the doctor that my foot needed to be severed to stop the progression of the gangrene. It would be severed at the ankle or above. My parents had asked for twenty-four hours to make the decision. The minister they had contacted for an anointing for healing schedule changed and was available to come to our home in Denver.
I am not sure why God answered the prayers of my parents and mine for healing, but I do know that I walk today with two sound feet because of His grace and the faith to believe.
